Alzheimer’s disease is one of the growing health issue seen globally. It is a neurodegenerative disorder which leads to a gradual decline in the memory. At present, there is no appropriate technique available which can detect the disease at an early stage before the onset of its symptoms.
But the medical researchers have proved that with the help of AI techniques the health experts can identify the individuals who are vulnerable to this condition. In the United States alone more than 5.5 million people have become the victim of this disease and the number is increasing at a fast pace.
The early detection techniques related to the Alzheimer’s disease can be effectively determined with the help of Artificial Intelligence. This is a much-needed tool in medical field although it might have potential drawbacks. Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured and it is mostly seen in old people. The early detection of the disease may help the medical experts to take prompt steps at the earliest.
Alzheimer’s disease causes memory decline. By detecting the early symptoms of the disease, the potential patients can take appropriate treatment to slow down the damage caused by this disease. The researchers from the University of Bari have designed an AI-based algorithm which can determine the changes taking place in the brain. This algorithm can efficiently determine the symptoms of the disease 10 years before its onset.
During the study 67 MRI scans were given as input to the AI-based algorithm Out of these 38 MRI scans patients were suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and remaining 29 were not suffering from the disease.
These scans were divided into smaller chunks by the algorithms and were analyzed. This AI-based algorithm successfully determined the individuals who were suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. This AI tool can also detect the symptoms of other neurodegenerative diseases in future.
