iOS 11, the next major upgrade in the iOS mobile operating system have started rolling out from mid of September. This update is available for all the compatible iPhone and iPad devices. The launch of iOS 11 brings many new features and improvements over the previous iOS versions.
According to the latest news, iOS 11 has acquired a significant 47% adoption rate and powers many iPhone, iPod, and iPad devices. Within a span of 1 month, this operating system version has acquired huge adoption rate which shows the popularity of the new iOS version. Compared to the recently launched Android Oreo which has only 0.2% adoption rate, iOS 11 is much ahead in the race.
But the report suggests that the huge gap between the Android and iOS 11 adoption rate is because of varying technical specifications, and various Android skins supported by different phone manufacturers. The data related to the iOS 11 adoption rate has been released by Mixpanel which shows that iOS 11 adoption rate is 48.55% followed by iOS which has 5.95% adoption rate.
Also, this huge difference was seen in iOS and the Android adoption rate is because iOS is not open source, unlike Android. Thus, in iOS, there is very little chance of fragmentation. Every week there is an increase in the adoption rate of iOS 11 which is a positive sign for the company. A similar trend was seen when iOS 10 was launched. Within a span of 1 month after the launch, the adoption rate of iOS 10 had reached 66%.
The slow adoption rate of iOS 11 may be due to the difference between the launch of iPhone devices, namely iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Earlier Apple used to launch the series of iPhone devices at the same time. Due to this the update used to roll out simultaneously to all the iPhone devices.
Many people are eagerly waiting for iPhone X and it is expected that the once iPhone X hits the market, the iOS 11 adoption rate will be boosted tremendously.
